John Hourian *

Board of Directors

John has been in the green industry field of architecture and landscape architecture since 1964. He graduated from East Los Angeles College with an AA Degree in Architecture in 1966. Before attending California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, John worked for Arborgast Jones and Theiss, Architects and The Jack H. McDonald Company in Los Angeles.

 

After graduating from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental design with a major in Landscape Architecture in 1969, John received his license to practice landscape architecture in California in 1971. Since then, he holds a license in landscape architecture in California, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, and Utah.

 

John has worked with the following firms:

John started Hourian Associates, Landscape Architecture and Design in 1989. His daughter Nicole Hourian Nunn joined forces and are both in partnership, with offices in San Clemente, and  Santa Barbara.

 

John has been actively involved in the green industry and has held a number of positions with the Southern California Chapter of American Society of landscape Architects (ASLA) as president in 1975 and 1980.

 

Since 1980, John has been actively involved with the ClassFund as one of its founding members that included Jim Hogan, Keith French, Bob Cardoza, and Rob Sawyer. John was also ClassFund Chairman during the early years.

 

John also participated as a judge with CCLA on two occasions to review landscape installation projects in the Southern California area, as well as attending their awards banquet.

 

John lives with his beautiful wife in San Clemente. Important family members include his two daughters Nicole and Erika and their two great husbands Brett and Kris along with six grandchildren, Fletcher, Lola, Walker, Grayson, Sheldon and Shane.

 

John passed away in late 2022.
